If you pay attention and challenge yourself, you will leave the program with confidence in your creative and practical skills, and with a portfolio that reflects your unique lens on the world. Designed for individuals who have recently purchased a digital SLR, or who have been shooting independently without formal instruction or guidance, the Photography Certificate provides a solid foundation in the technical and visual aspects of photography, and in particular digital photography. Courses guide students through the technology, and expose students to the core principles of effective photography, including digital image capture, editing, composition and lighting. Led by instructors who are working photography professionals, students leave the program with the technical background and making processes that make a strong photographer. In the past 100 years, photography has seen paradigm shifts every decade or so, in one or more areas that include technology, workflow, social relevance, usage and art. In the past few years, and in the near future, these paradigm shifts are conservatively occurring every two years. It is a goal of this program to address these shifts and be a resource to those that use the camera in the diverse and complex ways that change the very nature of photography.
