North Carolina State Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry
The fundamental mission of the Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry at NC State University is the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge through original and innovative research, instruction, and outreach.
The department balances an interdependence of formal classroom instruction with laboratory instruction and experience in research methods. The department promotes a culture for developing interdisciplinary teams that are recognized for solving local, state, and global grand challenges, including teaching and research into the elucidation of basic processes in plants, animals, and microbes and the experimental manipulation of these processes to understand their underlying mechanisms. Classroom instruction and laboratory research incorporate a variety of model organisms to examine all levels of biological organization, including molecular, biochemical, biophysical, structural, and organismal.
